Monique Tschofen is a Canadian-based media artist and academic. With the nine-woman Decameron Collective, she has produced and internationally exhibited two digital storyworlds. Memory Eternal (2023 VR) was selected for juried exhibition in Portugal at the Electronic Literature Organization's Media Arts Festival, and acknowledged with a Digital Humanities Award (US) and shortlisted for the Wonderbox Digital Opening Up New Media Writing Prize (UK). Decameron 2.0 (2022 WebGL) won Honorable Mention for the international Robert Coover Award for a Work of Electronic Literature, and was featured in juried exhibitions at the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling in Kobe, Japan, Canada and the US.
Her interactive documentary Solastalgia, with Jolene Armstrong, and installation Fire and Water were juried selections for exhibition at the Interactive Film and Media conference June 2025 and the Electronic Literature Organization's Media Arts Festival July 2025.
Her solo projects have also been exhibited internationally. Careless Water was exhibited at ICIDS (International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling) in Baranquilla, Colombia, December 2024. In There Behind the Door was an official selection of the Electronic Literature Organization's Media Arts Festival in Florida, July, 2024. And her feminist interactive work, Happenings: A Tragico-lyrical Philosophical Essay was short listed for the Chris Meade Main Prize and the Social Good Prize of the New Media Writing Prize. It also was Runner Up for the Robert Coover Award for a Work of Electronic Literature.
This documentary, produced by IMPRINT Documentary Collective, with sound by Hendrick de Haan, is her first stand-alone short feature.
